2019 Malbec
100% Malbec form the Rattlesnake Hills - a big, jammy, earthy nose of blackberries, dark chocolate, licorice and smoky vanilla - takes me back to our visit to a ranch outside Buenos Aires for an afternoon Asado. The tantalizing aroma of meats roasting on an open fire, the smell of leather and fresh overturned soil as polo ponies sprinted around the track nearby.
Opaque as a starless night, one big sip reveals a plump, luscious and shamelessly decadent exuberance of sweet plum, candied cherry and roasted coffee with a spicy "tang" back finish complexity. Wanna quick trip to culinary Nirvana? I'd suggest lamb shanks braised (braising liquid being Malbec!) with green olives, carrots and preserved lemon, served over wide rigatoni tube noodles.
